In January, 2020 YONECO conducted a tree planting exercise at Ndangopuma in Zomba district in order to dress the hill that lost its glory due to deforestation.
22 months down the line, the fruits of the tree planting initiative are now very promising. Out of the 2000 trees that were planted, close inspection shows that 70 percent of the trees that were planted have not just survived but they are strong and providing the much needed canopy for the hill.
The reforestation exercise which was conducted in collaboration with Forestry Department and Zomba City Council is one best clear example of good collaboration, planning and monitoring of reforestation that goes beyond just planting.
For the past few years, YONECO has been managing tree nurseries and strengthening relationships with forestry officials, the youth and other partners through the initiative.
